Graduate Speaker's Bureau
Our Speakers Bureau exists to educate and empower women and families to lead healthy abuse-free lives.
Our Graduate Speakers are domestic violence survivors who share their experiences and stories with audiences to:
- create awareness about abuse
- help young women watch for abuse warning signs
- learn how to get help
- understand that it is possible to leave
Our Graduate Speakers are available:
- As spokeswomen to the media
- For local organizations, clubs, and corporate functions
- For programs for women in shelters
- For high school girls for the prevention of domestic violence
Speakers Update - October 2009
The graduates have told their stories and taught classes to more than 1,500 people in the community since May 2008 in an effort to lead and inspire women to live their best lives and educate the community about domestic violence and violence against women.
Most recently one of our graduates spoke along with Dana Bristol-Smith at the monthly meeting for women executives at SAIC where the session was telecast to other SAIC locations and delivered via the Web. The very same week two of our graduates were featured in multiple interviews on October 1 at the 8th Annual Not to be Forgotten Rally which is celebrated in remembrance of those in our community who have fallen victim to domestic violence.

On TV, Radio and More
The members of the Graduate Speaker’s Bureau have been featured more than a dozen times in local TV news stories and radio interviews, and also chair and co-chair the San Diego Family Justice Center VOICES Committee and head their City Council Sub-Committee, and serve on the California Family Justice Initiative Advisory Committee.
